As previously mentioned, we have places to visit, people to meet, and tasks to accomplish. Thankfully, we are still capable of doing these things. Able N' Disabled has now been incorporated as a Non-Profit.
During our absence from the website, we chose to move to a smaller residence, added a small ramp

and renovated the shower for better accessibility,

plus traveled by van to Texas and Minnesota.
Planning ahead with hotels, we were able to secure standard bedframes that could accommodate our lift, gaining considerable knowledge in the process. We collaborated with the Arizona Department of Disability, who endorsed a letter we sent to the hotels regarding our needed accommodations. Additionally, we developed inventive methods for transporting both the wheelchair and the lift in our van.

We collaborated with restaurants to ensure the availability of square tables that allow Curly to comfortably position his wheelchair on his right side. By asking ahead of time everyone was accommodating to our needs. We also found that this was a nice way of building a good relationship with the front desk or hostess and made our return trip easy.
One of the harder things in the past year has been learning to say, "Sorry, we cannot do that."
Learning to politely decline requests, whether for hosting a party or overnight guests, or even
participating in events has presented a challenge. Recognizing our limitations has been beneficial. Meanwhile, in different scenarios, maneuvering through places such as grocery store aisles in an electric wheelchair can be problematic because of the lack of accessibility. I take charge by evaluating the surroundings before Curly drives through, depending on my keen assessment skills for measurements.
And never forget to take the time to celebrate milestones. Weddings, grandson's high school graduation party, other grandson's confirmation are such proud moments for everyone, why would you want to miss.
We are happy to be back on our blog, to be able to share new insights with our friends. If you need a question answered do not hesitate to email us at Kpatter48@gmail.com. Please put Able N' Disabled in the subject line.
One of the new features we aim to introduce is the option to attract buyers to any equipment you may want to sell. Kindly email us at Kpatter48@gmail.com with your contact details, location, and a picture of the product (such as a van, wheelchair, lift, etc.). We will include it in our monthly update at no charge. Please refrain from mentioning the price. Provide your contact information, and interested parties will reach out to you directly. Your listing will be featured in one update, unless you request additional postings.
Moving Forward with Disabilities is where we are. We are starting our 11th year since Curly's stroke; it is a wonderful reminder to us how God leads us on our journey.
