As I had mentioned in an earlier blog that we would be taking off to our timeshare in Cancun, Mexico. I had an uneasy feeling with the Covid situation. Curly and I talked about it and my concerns were if I got sick over there who would take care of him. If he got sick what was available for hospitals, etc. Realizing that we would need to test before coming back in the United States made me wonder am I going to worry about testing the whole time I am there? I shared my thoughts not only with Curly but also our daughters. They thought our points were valid and even added some additional situations that they had heard of. Decision made…we will postpone for now.
Most things were easy to cancel but to get your therapy appointments back was a little more work. Because we now had extra time and not able to go to Cancun, how about doing a staycation in Arizona. There are a few places we have not been, I just wanted to see them.
Globe, Arizona surrounded by two other mining towns, Superior and Miami made for a great day trip. I checked the internet and yes there was a recommended Mexican restaurant. Off to Globe we went after his therapy on Thursday. It took a little over an hour from Mesa and we arrived. Found the restaurant…not many handicap parking spots…uhm, the curb is very high to get the ramp out. Curly said, “lets do lunch at Gold Canyon Golf Club in Gold Canyon instead”.

That made my job easier, we headed down the mountain roads with all the beauty. Their mine shafts are still there, the rocks almost made me think of Moab on a smaller scale. Arriving in Gold Canyon we ordered lunch and just relaxed on their patio then headed back to Fountain Hills glad that we now have that spot checked on our bucket list.
Friday, we needed to celebrate, our Granddaughter is headed to Beijing for the Paralympics! We received a text and quickly grabbed the box of Kleenex as we shared our tears of joy!
Sydney Peterson has worked so hard, came home with 3 medals from Norway and now qualified for Nordic skiing in the Paralympics… Go Team USA!!!!!!!!

To celebrate Grandpa said he wanted to go on the Desert Belle for a nice boat ride.
Off we went and they have a wonderful ramp that makes seeing Lake Saguaro by boat a breeze. We have done this several times, they do change the narration, so we seem to always learn something new. If you are in the Phoenix area check this out. Open 7 Days A Week! - Desert Belle Cruises

On Saturday, Concourse in The Hills was returning to Fountain Hills after a 2-year covid leave. What a great cause. Over 1,000 high end cars lined the grass along with hundreds of people. It made you glad to see our town come out of its hibernation and happy that Concourse in The Hills raised over $400,000 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital. A win, win and only two miles from home.

They do need to work on their handicapped parking, I am sure they will.
This week has been a wonderful staycation with more to come. Moving Forward with Disabilities in Retirement may mean taking in your local sites and staying close to home.
