Fun, fun, fun!!! Things have been on high speed for the Patterson family. Celebrating the Paralympics where our Granddaughter, Sydney Peterson, brought home Gold, Silver and Bronze in cross-country skiing from Beijing. Yes, we are proud, but we learned a lot from watching all the participants. How they focus and train with their disabilities is amazing.

Curly and I have stepped up our act after being a little laid back through the Arizona winter. Pool therapy will start next week. Increasing his repetitions will increase the strength he lost and keeps us both in a much better demeaner.

Taking the time to set up our summer travel does take a little bit of work. Does the hotel have a regular bed so the lift can get under the bed? The van needs to have a few things tweaked. Locking mechanism is not working correctly. Checked with a company in Scottsdale, they are checking with Rollx. Because it does lock automatically 95% of the time, this is something we may decide to have fixed where we purchased it in Minnesota. The other 5% of the time I can do it manually. This summer travel will lead to fun, fun, fun!

Our trip to California will come first. Planning to spend one week in Newport Beach with ferry trips to Catalina Island for our 52nd wedding anniversary will be our special June journey. Oh yes, we can do this pretty easy from Fountain Hills. Six to seven hours should bring us to our destination for a relaxing, fun week.

July we will enjoy being at home and come August, Minnesota here we come. Fun, fun, fun! The hotels have been booked. Spending three days in the Twin Cities to visit family and friends, then on to Duluth for three days to enjoy a family wedding. I did ask Curly if he wanted to go, answer was, “Ah, yes!” We do miss seeing friends and family from up north and this gives us a fun filled time to reconnect. Some might wonder why such short stays…. we need to get back for therapy.

Travel is good for our soul. We have developed a plan that works well for us. Leave the hotel around 8:30 a.m., stop for lunch, then arrive at the hotel 6-7 hours after we began. Take a rest, find someplace for a quick dinner. My one thing on all trips going north is to spend a night in Santa Fe. That will happen on our return trip. We get their early and are staying downtown so Kathy can get her fun fix of Santa Fe.

Why am I sharing these things with you? Get out of your normal routine, enjoy what you do and do it “Just for the fun of it!”

Moving forward in retirement with disabilities can be an enriching journey. You will feel better, and your family may notice a change in attitude.
